Week 8: vs. California

Greg's preview:
WEEK 8 Washington vs California What is it, 17 in a row against Cal? If ever there was a chance for Cal to avenge the losing streak, it's not now. Sorry Cal, congrats on the upset over UCLA but you're going to get whupped this weekend. Here's why. The UW defense is doing excellent, although they were helped by ASU last week. The week before the offense kicked butt. The fact is the Huskies only need one of the two to play well against Cal for a win at home. If both play badly I'll be very surprised. UW has emerging RB star Rich Alexis and Paul Arnold in the mix, plus two go-to receivers in Stevens and Elstrom (who dropped a beauty last week). IF the Washington coaches play calls designed for Tuiososopo, which they have not been doing, the ball should move easily. Cal's defense is good, but not great. They did give up 30 to ASU, but only 21 to WSU and a bunch to UCLA because of overtime. Opposing teams need only to realize that if you make Washington throw the ball you can beat them. Every other week the coaches come up with some trick offensive plans to defeat it, and it's one of those weeks. Cal's offense suffers from Kyle Boller Syndrome still. I'm not sure what Kyle Boller Syndrome is exactly but it's unsightly and seems painful. Igber got some yards on us last year. Thankfully Sanyika is gone now. Cal also has a great punter, and the Huskies are not good with field position lately. This could be trouble if the Bears decide to watch Remember the Titans again. The Huskies do not know how to handle punt returns, and Cal will punt a lot. Watch out for turnovers. I expect the Husky crowd to be un-fired up again for this game. Don't get me started on what it was like when I was a student. UW 35, Cal 13. Washington: 36, California: 24. - COMMENTS -
