Husky Football Week 9: vs. Stanford

Back to main Greg's preview:

WEEK 9

Washington vs Stanford

Washington is struggling on offense but the defense can (at times) play like the best defense in the country. Stanford throws to a LOT of guys and that's UW's biggest weakness. Expect pressure on the QB to help out the improving but young secondary. They will double-up on Tripplet so expect some saftey blitzes from the outside. I predict 5 sacks on the Tree, but for the most part it won't matter too much because they will still catch some balls.

This will be a close one but I think UW has better athletes. If they bring the good stuff it'll be a 10 point margin. If they don't it'll be an OT game. I'll predict they bring the medium stuff again.

Washington 30, Stanford 28.

- COMMENTS -

For those of you who did not see or hear the Washington game, which would be probably all of you - this is the craziest radio game I've heard in a long time. It brought be right back to the floor-pounding and screaming that went on against Arizona in 1992.

To sum up, Stanford came back from a 24-6 deficit with two (plus one called back but successful) on-side kicks to take the lead 28-24 leaving the Huskies with the ball and 48 (I think) seconds to score. Washington moved the ball on 3 passing plays to score with 11 seconds left on the clock, then stopped Stanford's last-second bomb.

This is the second game I was sure was over and somehow the Dawgs pulled it out. Stanford showed amazing poise coming back just like a Pac-10 champ. I am still amazed at this one. After watching the Oregon / ASU game too which was just as crazy I'm not sure what can top this. Nothing left to do but watch another football game, then go a halloween party where things will be just as surreal I'm sure.

The bad news is Husky strong saftey Curtis Williams was carried off the field unconscious, and they have still not announced his status. Hopefully he'll be OK.

Once again good game Stanford, that has to be heart-breaking.
